About the profession

The career of an international lawyer has recently become one of the most in-demand jobs. This can be accounted for by the fact that more and more companies enter foreign markets and connect with suppliers and customers abroad. International lawyers settle all kinds of disputes with foreign partners of Russian natural and juridical persons. Such a lawyer should be a good expert on legislation in many countries, understand the principles of civil and customs legislation as well as tax law. Accessing a foreign market, initiating legal action in the International Court of Justice, and carrying on foreign economic activity requires competent legal advice. By providing such assistance, lawyers carry out numerous actions which help to protect the interests of juridical and natural persons. Further, they take into consideration legislation in many countries and apply them alongside Russian legislation.

Educational process

The scientific research component of the program consists in the study of the system of international legal norms (rules contained in international treaties, international customary laws, provisions of soft law), regulating relations between states, international intergovernmental organizations and other international entities, the study of international legal ideas, principles, notions, categories, concepts characterizing essential features of international law, including the right to integration associations, as well as aims, methods and mechanisms of international legal regulation in foreign relations.

Post-graduates study such subjects as International Law, European Law, International Humanitarian Law, International Environmental Law, Scientific and Technological Progress and International Law.

Practical training

Practical training is a mandatory component of the post-graduate curriculum. Post-graduates engage in practical activities such as teaching certain subjects, class activity management, scientific and methodical work on a subject, and acquisition of necessary teaching skills. The teaching practicum includes study of the basics of pedagogical, educational and methodical work at the institutions of higher education, and mastering teaching skills for conducting classes on various subjects from the specialization curriculum. The main objective of the teaching practicum is to demonstrate the results of comprehensive psychological, pedagogical, socio-economic and IT readiness of a post-graduate for teaching activities. Post-graduates have access to fieldwork in government agencies, as well as Russian and international companies.

Career

Upon successful graduation, alumni have an opportunity to apply their valuable knowledge in the sphere of international protection of human rights in state structures of the Russian Federation (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation), in the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation and the regions, in international and Russian non-governmental organizations, and in regional offices of international organizations in Moscow (The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, The International Committee of the Red Cross etc.). They will also be engaged in teaching activities at Russian and foreign universities.
