About the profession

Is there a postgraduate student that did not dream to take the position of his professor? This programme will develop your love of language and its teaching, giving you the knowledge and professional skills you need to enter this challenging area, or to extend your current career. It aims to produce reflective and competent teachers, sensitive to the demands of the pupils and the job, responsive to a changing education system and committed to continuing their own professional development throughout their careers. The final stage of postgraduate studies in this field is to obtain a graduate qualification of a "teacher-researcher".

Whether you are a newly qualified or experienced teacher, or you are involved in a related area of language teaching, such as curriculum development, you will benefit from the blend of educational and linguistic foundations on offer. You will learn through a combination of fundamental theory and practice, including class observation. In the process of postgraduate studies on this profile, ethno-cultural characteristics of communicative behaviour of representatives of Eastern and Western cultures in verbal, non-verbal and paraverbal communication, ethnic stereotypes are carefully studied. At the same time, communicative failures in intercultural communication, their causes and ways of overcoming are considered, which is especially important.

 Academic process

An intensive immersion into the profession begins as early as in the first year of study. Thereby, a pan-European system of foreign language proficiency is put forward. Comparing different systems of teaching foreign languages, postgraduate students build up universal approaches to the process of teaching foreign languages through their own electronic educational-methodical complexes. 

Training is conducted in the mainstream of intercultural communication. At the same time, different technologies for teaching foreign languages are compared (for example, European and North American models of training). Particular attention is paid to the social relations of individual and socio-cultural environment.

The academic courses offered are those on Intralinguodidactics, Methodology of Scientific Research, Intercultural Communication, Pedagogy of Higher Education, History and Philosophy of Science, Foreign Language.

Internship

Students have opportunities of conducting seminars and practical classes, as well as lectures under the guidance or in the presence of professors and associate professors. Business games in the format of press conferences,  webinars, conflict games, games for decision-making, computer simulation on the basis of business games help students understand the nuances of their future profession. Subject discussions, master classes of leading methodologists, participation in international competitions, interviews with potential employers, form future professional competencies.

Career opportunities

Hands-on industry experience is a core part of every course. The dedicated placement scheme offers the opportunity to gain teaching experience, apply for research project internships, and participate in our award-winning partnerships.

Graduates of this postgraduate program are employed as teachers in secondary and higher educational institutions in Russia, CIS countries and overseas. They continue to be actively engaged in research activities and many focus on the work to obtain a PhD degrees from the world’s most prestigious universities (Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Sorbonne, etc.).
