About the profession
Physiology is an experimental science, which is a natural science discipline. It studies the vital activity of the organism and its individual systems. Physiology seeks to uncover the mechanisms of regulation of physiological functions of the body and its interaction with the environment. In addition to General physiology are studied: Adaptation of the organism to changed environmental conditions, Biorhythmology, Clinical physiology.
Development of these directions will allow to prepare the expert capable to be engaged both in pedagogical, and scientific activity, including to solve theoretical and applied problems for practical health care, recreational medicine, sports medicine, school medicine, psychophysiology. As a result of training a specialist physiologist will be formed: the ability to critically analyze and evaluate modern scientific achievements in solving research and practical problems, including in interdisciplinary fields; willingness to participate in the work of Russian and international research teams using modern research methods and information and communication technologies.
Postgraduate study in the profile «Physiology» lasts 4 years. Training is organized and conducted by a supervisor from among the professors of the Department.
During training, the theoretical and methodological foundations necessary for scientific, pedagogical and professional activities of the graduate student are mastered and include: attending lectures, participation in classroom classes, independent work, preparation of an abstract, analytical note, scientific report, publications, which are completed by the design of the dissertation work. At the end of the postgraduate course, the final state certification is provided, the result of which is a state-issued document.
After preparation of the dissertation work, it can be submitted to the dissertation Council for the degree of candidate/doctor of science (PhD).
Graduate students at the Department are trained in the theory and practice of experimental work on animals, methods of non-invasive functional tests on humans, work with psychological questionnaires and other materials.
Graduate students are given the opportunity to learn to work on the devices and equipment that the Department of normal physiology has and to conduct independent research on the developed programs in accordance with the interests of the graduate student and the chosen topic of research.
The graduate student has the right to conduct classes with students, applying in practice the knowledge and technology obtained in other departments (philosophy, psychology, etc.).
The graduate student is provided with access to the information resources available in the institution, including national and international databases.
The graduate student masters modern methods of statistical processing of the obtained results. According to the materials of scientific research, the graduate student under the guidance of experienced managers summarizes the data and prepares scientific publications in specialized scientific journals and participates in scientific conferences at the national and international levels. Approbation of the results of independent scientific research by a graduate student is also carried out during his participation in specialized scientific events (conferences, seminars, round tables, etc.) and academic mobility programs.
The stages of career development of the graduate of the Department of normal physiology cover the following qualification categories:
- In the field of scientific activity: candidate of Sciences, doctor of Sciences, corresponding member, full member of specialized academies of Sciences, member of national and international academies of Sciences. During postgraduate studies, there is an opportunity to receive presidential and government scholarships and grants from various national and international foundations. Registration of national and international patents.
- In the field of teaching: assistant, associate Professor, Professor of the Department, member of national and international academies of Sciences.
If successful and important results are achieved, there is a practice of receiving honorary titles, prizes and awards at the national and international level.
