About the Profession

A sociologist makes his living by research. Usually he studies how people behave: how they do their shopping, cast their ballots in elections, work and seek employment, go on holidays, marry and divorce, bear and raise children, change their place of residence, etc. A sociologist conducts surveys, carries out interviews, delivers lectures, writes articles, appears on television, he might be absorbed into dozens of different cultures. A sociologist knows how to study human relationships and actions and how to influence them, how to build a community and prevent a conflict, how to make money and to save time.

A sociologist always has a choice. Some sociologists build their career in marketing or HR, others work for international projects, some are employed at universities and research centres, others – in the media, and still others suceed in politics. Some sociologists enter on a business career, others pursue an academic career, and still others go into politics or devote themselves to a specific social problem, still remaining sociologists.
