About the profession
Regional Studies expertise is a relatively new vocational area. Regional Studies Program views the world in its whole variety; it is well-defined and provides an exhaustive look upon states and regions. Regional Studies Program prepares experts on a particular region, state or group of states. Theory and History of International Relations Department participates in Double Master Program in cooperation with partner universities within the University of The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Framework.
It is no secret that today’s world requires that professionals should be in possession of cross-disciplinary skills. And this is what Regional Studies Program provides for. A Regional Studies specialist is a historian, political scientist, diplomat, economist, lawyer, and linguist combined. A profound knowledge of the economy, geography, history, demography, language and culture of the region enables Regional Studies graduates to find employment in various fields. A Regional Studies graduate is well-prepared to provide professional translation, participate in shaping international agenda, develop investment projects, conduct statistical research and consult on the problems of the region.
The students acquire an in-depth knowledge of a range of disciplines related to the region under study. Double Degree Program within the USCO Framework provides for one academic year within the walls of a partner-university and another academic year at RUDN University with an opportunity to earn a degree from both.
Double Degree Program within the USCO Framework is held in cooperation with:

- Russian - Tajik Slavonic University (Tajikistan),

The students study two foreign languages including the one spoken in the region under study. The syllabus centers on disciplines with special regard to the region under study – its geography and history, economy and finance, culture and religion, foreign policy and international relations.
The teaching staff includes leading Russian experts working with RUDN University, MGIMO University, Diplomatic Academy, ISAAS with MSU, RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rossotrudnichestvo Agency as well as leading experts from partner universities.
”History and Methodology of Complex Regional Studies”, “Region under Study as Part of World Civilization”, “Region under Study in Contemporary International Relations”, “Foreign Policy Decision-Making in the Region under Study”, “Ethnopsychology of the Region under Study ”, “Integration Processes in the Region under Study”, etc.
The program provides for a pre-graduation internship during which the students register with the Russian State Library, ISAAS Library, RAS Institute for Far Eastern Studies Library, etc., to do scientific research of their own.
Having successfully completed the Program, the students are awarded degrees from RUDN University and a partner university and acquire an in-depth knowledge of the region under study. The graduates are well-prepared to work both in public and private sectors of Russian economy as well as in international organizations. Regional Studies graduates have a professional command of the language spoken in the region under study and some European language – an invaluable skill for an expert in the field. Regional Studies Double Degree Program graduates are intended to form cadre personnel of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and promote intercultural dialogue between the participant states.
