About the profession
According to statistics, more than half of the world's population suffers from diseases of the digestive system. These diseases can accompany us since childhood. It is proved that after graduation from school, every second suffers from gastritis. By twenty-five years old, a quarter of the population has a stomach or duodenal ulcer. Not to mention other diseases of the digestive system. Therefore, the profession of a gastroenterologist is relevant today. Gastroenterologists are becoming more in-demand, taking into account the growing number of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Besides, some sections of gastroenterology are currently the fastest growing, due to the emergence of new methods of medical examination and treatment.
Training process
The educational residency programme "Gastroenterology" is developed for people with higher medical education, aimed at training highly qualified specialists engaged in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and a number of other organs involved in the digestive process. Training is practically oriented and aimed at the formation of system knowledge and professional competences that allow conducting medical activities.
Internship
Medical residents are distributed to the units of the clinical sites of the department, where, under the guidance of professors of the department, they have the opportunity both to expand their knowledge and see its application in practice. Students analyze clinical events and this provides the opportunity to obtain a wealth of clinical experience during residency training.
Career
A graduate of the residency programme is a highly qualified specialist, who can apply modern high-tech methods of diagnosis and treatment and carry out therapeutic, diagnostic, research activities, engage in private medical practice. Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to work in public hospitals, private clinics, medical schools, higher educational institutions of medical specialization, scientific organizations, polyclinics, consultative-diagnostic centers.
