General practice dentists are the main specialists fighting against diseases of the oral cavity. Although they mainly engage in the preventive work and performing secondary tasks of restorative therapy, they can also perform a wide range of other procedures, including aesthetic ones. This specialist should have sufficient knowledge and be able to perform many tasks; actually, a general practice dentist knows almost everything in this specialty since he/she is a dental therapist, orthopedist, hygienist and surgeon in one person. This specialist informs the population how to care for the oral cavity, gives first aid, cures the damaged tooth, removes it, if necessary, prescribes tests and x-ray examination. He/she can help almost any patient in case of toothache and various kinds of inflammation of the oral cavity.
The educational residency programme "General practice dentistry" is developed for people with higher medical education, aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the field of the treatment of caries, pulpitis, parodontitis, filling and teeth restoration (bridge restoration and dental crowning), for independent work in public healthcare institutions or in private practice. Training is practically oriented and aimed at the formation of system knowledge and professional competences that allow conducting therapeutic activities.
After having honed the skills at the simulation courses, residents are distributed to the units of dental clinics in Moscow, where, under the guidance of professors of the department, they have the opportunity both to expand their knowledge and see its application in practice.
A graduate of the residency programme is a highly qualified specialist, who can apply modern high-tech methods of diagnosis and treatment and carry out therapeutic, diagnostic, research activities, engage in private medical practice. Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to work in public hospitals, private clinics, medical secondary schools, higher educational institutions of medical specialization, scientific organizations, polyclinics, consultative and diagnostic centers. Upon completion of the residency programme, the students have the opportunity to enroll in the postgraduate programme on the specialization “Dentistry”.
