About the profession

Nowadays, orthodontists along with dental surgeons work in every major clinic. Those, who have never encountered this specialty, do not know that an orthodontist is a specialist, who can restore the aesthetics of a smile in case of an incorrect bite or abnormal teeth position, using various materials and techniques. An orthodontist cures teeth, as well as a dentist; however, the field of activity of this specialist is somewhat narrower. An orthodontist examines the causes of abnormalities in the development of teeth and jaw, evaluates their severity in a certain patient and conducts appropriate therapy of the problem. In addition, an orthodontist develops preventive measures aimed at preventing the recurrence of pathology and its further progression.

Training process

The educational residency programme “Orthodontics” is developed for people with higher medical education, aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the field of correction of the pathological structure of the jaw, prevention, diagnostics and treatment of dentofacial abnormalities. An orthodontist’s activity is aimed at treating congenital problems, for example, abnormalities in the formation of the masticatory and speech apparatus.

Internship

After having honed the skills at the simulation courses, residents are distributed to the units of dental clinics in Moscow, where, under the guidance of professors of the department, they have the opportunity both to expand their knowledge and see its application in practice.

Career

A graduate of the residency programme is a highly qualified specialist, who can apply modern high-tech methods of diagnosis and treatment and carry out therapeutic, diagnostic, research activities, engage in private medical practice. Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to work in public hospitals, private clinics, medical secondary schools, higher educational institutions of medical specialization, scientific organizations, polyclinics, consultative and diagnostic centers. Upon completion of the residency programme, the students have the opportunity to enroll in the postgraduate programme on the specialization “Dentistry”.
