About the profession
The programme is designed to prepare highly qualified, competitive, innovation-oriented bachelors in the field of veterinary and sanitary expertise. The programme focuses on the application of knowledge in practice.
Infrastructure consists of a resource center including information centers of several international organizations (European Union and the UN); the laboratories equipped with all necessary facilities for educational process, computer labs, classrooms with multimedia equipment and videoconference facilities, branch division of the Scientific library. Students will have access to numerous electronic information databases.
As a result of mastering the programme, students will acquire professional skills. Future specialist will conduct veterinary and sanitary expertise of raw materials and slaughter products of animal origin. They will be able to organize, plan and conduct veterinary and sanitary measures at enterprises. They will be trained to ensure biological safety of animal raw materials and processed products. The programme allows students to participate in various industrial tests of new types of food obtained from raw materials of animal origin, carry out veterinary and sanitary control in processing plants and during export-import operations, etc.
Biology, Physiology, Anatomy, Pathological physiology of animals, Cytology, Histology and embryology, Microbiology, Virology, Pathological anatomy, Infectious diseases, Parasitic diseases, Internal non-infectious diseases, Veterinary and sanitary expertise, Economy and the organization of veterinary business, Toxicology with fundamentals of pharmacology, Forensic veterinary and sanitary expertise, Veterinary sanitation, Technology of animal processing, Technology of milk and dairy products, Production veterinary and sanitary control, etc.
During practical training students will undertake internships at the large agricultural enterprises and the leading manufacturing and scientific enterprises engaged in the veterinary and sanitary activity as a part of human and animal health protection and production of safe raw materials of animal and vegetable origin.
Given the existing international cooperation, foreign internships are held in institutions and commissions of FAO, Rome; the establishments of the Veterinary and Sanitary Commission of Italy (meat and milk processing factories, laboratories); the largest Austrian meat processing company Matimex and others.
The first edition took place in 2015. A large number of graduates of this field entered the second stage of education – magistracy.

The Department of Veterinary Medicine, ATI, RUDN, which produces veterinary experts, has direct links with employers. Internships are held in potential workplaces; students attend exhibitions and conferences and communicate with employers directly.

Graduates can occupy the following a wide range of position such as Veterinary and sanitary expert; Veterinary-sanitary physician; Leading specialist of the Department of quality control and product safety; Quality manager, Veterinary toxicologist; Veterinary bacteriologist in veterinary laboratory and veterinary-sanitary expertise laboratory; Manager for the sale of food products; Specialist of veterinary and sanitary services; Manager of scientific communications department for working with zoo business experts; Researcher; Veterinary specialist in customs, etc.
The Department of Veterinary Medicine and the entire university gives us a huge base of knowledge, which essential to specialists of the field. We successfully mastered minor subjects and went onto the major. Professors demonstrated high competence. The specialists have given us theoretical and practical knowledge from their professional experience. The university is well equipped with microscopes and laboratory equipment. The programme of a double diploma gives students the opportunity to become experts fluent in foreign languages and qualified in their professional spheres. A large amount of time is dedicated to learning of foreign languages. The knowledge of some subjects has already proved to be useful in my life. Specialists from various large companies came to the classes, and gave interesting lectures and simply shared their experiences and gave valuable advice. In addition, RUDN is a multi-national university. Communication with students from other countries provides for a unique experience and very unusual knowledge.
Studying in the field of the Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise, I notice that every year the training becomes more interesting. The educational process is perfectly organized, and the availability of practical classes makes me very happy with the programme, Equipment and technical facilities make it possible to make reports, presentations, etc. in an interesting, visual form. A huge advantage is availability of training laboratories and "fresh" literature on the studied subjects. An important part of the learning process is the annual practical training that enables students to immerse into the future profession and makes it possible to use theoretical knowledge in practice. Occasionally, we visit various industries, farms, etc. Meetings of students with leading experts of enterprises in the sphere of veterinary expertise give us the opportunity to find places of internships. In the course «Technology of milk and dairy products» taught by Associate Professor M.V. Bolshakova we had an opportunity to conduct experiments. I am very interested in this subject. Lectures are always interesting and informative; the gained knowledges is relevant and can be applied in professional and daily life. I did not have a clue that studying of Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise would be so interesting and informative.
The system of knowledge assessment in RUDN is the most convenient. It reflects the real students knowledges. If you have questions about the material, you can always consult with a teacher. As a 3rd year student, I can see the level of professional growth, thanks to ongoing practical exercises. Studying Veterinary and Sanitary Expertise, students learn about important aspects of their profession. At the same time, students are interested in learning and looking for resolution some issues. Students' circles are constantly functioning. We can visit them after classes and receive additional knowledge. I would also like point out the opportunity of writing and publishing scientific articles, which will contribute to admission to the master’s programme in future. In addition we are constantly supervised and assisted by teachers.
