The electrosynthesis of cyano acetate derivatives by acetonitrile reduction is a green and safe strategy to replace the traditional cyanation. Herein, we have obtained the cyano acetate derivatives in good yields by a simple electrolysis of aldehyde and acetyl chloride in acetonitrile in an undivided cell with carbon cathode and magnesium anode.

Derivatives based on boron-dipyrromethenes (BODIPY) possess original photonic and electronic properties, as well as unique characteristics, including easy functionalization and simple synthetic modification.
