Profession

Mathematical biology, bioinformatics-experimental science, which is a natural science discipline. It studies the structure and function of isolated and co-existing biological objects through mathematical models, as well as the spatial, temporal, and functional organization of genetic systems.
Implementation of mathematical models is carried out by means of methods of computational mathematics. The theoretical study of complex processes that allow mathematical description is carried out by means of a computational experiment. Methods of simulation modeling, graph theory, game theory and optimal control, automata theory are used. Methods of probability theory, theory of stochastic processes, neural networks, methods of statistical modeling are applied.
Trained in these areas, a specialist is able to independently engage in both pedagogical and scientific activities, including solving theoretical and applied problems for practical health care, recreational medicine, sports medicine, school medicine, molecular biology, genetics, etc. as a result of training a specialist in this field of knowledge will be formed: the ability to critically analyze and evaluate modern scientific achievements in solving research and practical problems, including in interdisciplinary areas; willingness to participate in the work of Russian and international research teams using modern research methods and information and communication technologies.

Educational Process

Postgraduate study in the profile "Mathematical biology, bioinformatics" lasts 4 years. Training is organized and conducted by the supervisor of professors and associate professors of the Department.
During training, the theoretical and methodological foundations necessary for scientific, pedagogical and professional activities of the graduate student are mastered and include: attending lectures, participation in classroom classes, independent work, preparation of an abstract, analytical note, scientific report, publications, which are completed by the design of the dissertation work. At the end of the postgraduate course, the final state certification is provided, the result of which is a state-issued document.
After preparation of the dissertation work it can be submitted to the defense of the dissertation Council for the degree of candidate of Sciences (Ph.D.).

Practice

Graduate students at the Department are trained in the theory and practice of experimental work on computers, methods of mathematical modeling and interpretation of the results.
Graduate students are given the opportunity to learn to work on the equipment, which has the Department and conduct independent research on the developed programs in accordance with the interests of the graduate student and the chosen topic.
The graduate student is given the right to conduct classes with students, applying in practice the knowledge and technology obtained in other departments (philosophy, psychology, etc.).
The graduate student is given access to the information resources available in the institution, including national and international databases.
The graduate student masters modern methods of statistical processing of the obtained results. Based on the materials of scientific research, the graduate student under the guidance of experienced managers summarizes the data and prepares scientific publications in specialized scientific journals and participates in scientific conferences at the national and international levels. Approbation of the results of independent scientific research by a graduate student is also carried out in the course of his participation in specialized scientific events (conferences, seminars, round tables, etc.) and academic mobility programs.

Career

The stages of career development of the graduate of the Department of normal physiology cover the following qualification categories:
In the field of scientific activity: candidate of Sciences, doctor of Sciences, corresponding member, full member of specialized academies of Sciences, member of national and international academies of Sciences. During postgraduate studies, there is an opportunity to receive presidential and government scholarships and grants from various national and international foundations. Registration of national and international patents.
In the field of teaching: assistant, associate Professor, Professor of the Department, member of national and international academies of Sciences.
If successful and important results are achieved, there is a practice of receiving honorary titles, prizes and awards at the national and international level.
