About the profession:

All modern vehicle manufacturers are developing, producing or planning to produce cars with hybrid power plants. Primarily, this is due to the fact that the world community is concerned about environmental pollution and is making efforts to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere from automobile engines. A hybrid car is a car that uses more than one energy source for drive wheels.
Modern automakers often resort to the joint use of an internal combustion engine (ICE) and an electric motor, which allows avoiding ICE operation in the mode of small loads, as well as implementing the recovery of kinetic energy, increasing the fuel efficiency of a power plant. Another common type of hybrids is cars, which engine is combined with compressed air engines.

Training process:

Research and development of physical processes and means of their control in internal combustion engines, pressurization units, fuel supply and air supply systems, lubrication and cooling systems, systems of reuse of exhaust gas heat and cooling working media, systems of neutralization of toxic substances in exhaust gases; modeling and experimental study of processes of mixture formation, combustion, gas dynamics, heat-and-mass transfer, formation of toxic substances during fuel combustion, vibro-acoustic radiation; development of methods and algorithms for managing power plants and their technical diagnostics.
The field of professional activity of holders of a bachelor’s degree in this field of study includes: design, research, installation and operation of energy machines (units, plants and systems of their control), which working processes are based on various forms of energy conversion. Training of undergraduates in the field of power engineering involves the in-depth study of a wide range of disciplines, which gives a graduate versatility, i.e. the ability, if necessary, to easily adapt to many related specialties, which increases his/her competitiveness in the labor market.

Disciplines:

Specialized disciplines cover the main areas of power engineering in relation to internal combustion engines (ICE): History of Energy, Fundamentals of Energy, Energy-Converting Machinery, Theory of ICE Operation Procedure, ICE Design and calculation, Hybrid power plants, Operation and repair of hybrid power plants, Heat engine systems, Energy-conserving units and alternative fuels, Heat transfer, Fluid and gas mechanics, Thermodynamics and heat transfer, Computational methods in engineering tasks, CAD (Computer Aided Design), Engine building technology, etc.

Internship:

During the period of study, students undertake an internship at the Department, in Kolomensky Plant OJSC, TPP-23, TPP-20, TPP-16, TPP-26, Mosenergo OJSC.
When undertaking introductory, educational and on-the-job internships, students learn current technology, organization and management of enterprises, as well as the latest research methods.
The Department has long-term and productive relationship with the leading Russian universities (Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Moscow State Automobile & Road Technical University, Moscow Power Engineering Institute, Kazan Aviation Institute, Moscow Aviation Institute, Moscow Automechanical Institute, etc.)

Career opportunities:

Upon successful completion of the educational programme, graduates can get a job at major industrial enterprises, such as FSUE Salyut, Chernyshov Moscow Plant, major heat and power plants, dealer and service centers of Russian and foreign automobile companies Rolf, Avtoframos, Renault, Volvo, Mitsubishi, VW, etc.
