About the Profession

The term “Public Relations” sounds rather appealing. Public relations is a new option - modern in contemporary Russia and well-developed in the Western world. Public relations specialists are highly qualified managers who easily find contacts with counterparts, communicate freely and say “goodbye” to their partners in such a way that their relationships may renew at any time for mutual benefit. PR-specialist, being well acquainted with human psychology, manages and monitors individuals as well as groups of people. If we add to all these qualities the profound knowledge of communication theory, two foreign languages, diplomatic background, and two Master’s degrees (one received in Russia, the other - in Great Britain) we will get a PR-manager – a specialist of high international level.

Academic Process

Academic process takes place both in Russia (Institute of Foreign Languages) and in Great Britain (Edinburgh Napier University). It is based on the project team work. Its essence is the education in the field of linguistics and PR-management. Excellent knowledge of three foreign languages serves as the basis for the programme realization. Concepts of management, marketing, advertising and peculiarities of international public relations are taught within the frame of the programme. Much of the research the students choose themselves, which allows them to walk their own path of personal or professional interest. The result is that the students can dig deep into their chosen field, which ensures a rich return on their educational investment and increases their ability to make a significant contribution to the studies in that area.

Taking into consideration the name of the programme, one can easily come to the conclusion that internship is the key part of the two years’ studies for Master’s degree. Students communicate daily at practical language lessons, while choosing the field and object of their project. To build a team, to fulfill the project means to practice communication skills and abilities in imitation games. While playing different roles they also practice the research activity, writing articles, thesis, delivering speeches at conferences and lectures in class. Their practical research activity mainly is conducted in famous scientific libraries and institutions. Master’s theses are written under the supervision of prominent professors.
