Profession focus

Jurisprudence appeared in ancient times. It is from the time of antiquity that we know the goddess of justice Themis (Femida). In Russia, jurisprudence as a science arose in the XVIII century. Being a lawyer at that time meant being a practitioner in every sense of the word. Lawyers of Peter's time were engaged in systematization, ordering of disparate, contradictory acts. Teaching of legal science in Russia was started by German lawyers invited by Peter I, but already in the middle of the XVIII century law was taught by Russian legal professionals. Publication of the Complete Collection of Laws and the Code of Laws of the Russian Empire and the1864 judicial reform brought domestic jurisprudence to a new level. Currently, professional lawyers are extremely in demand. All branches of law are developing extremely well and the market needs highly qualified specialists.

Learning  process

First year students are completely immersed in the profession. From the very beginning they form a comprehensive view of the main institutions of criminal law and proceedings, fundamental principles of criminal law, criminal procedure and criminalistics, categories of  offences, sentencing and exemption from criminal liability and punishment, criminal prosecution, theory of criminalistics, forensic tecnique, forensic tactics and methods, international cooperation in criminal investigation, as well as international and foreign criminal law and criminal procedure.

Internship

Business games help students understand the nuances of their future profession. Scientific seminars, subject discussions on topical issues, round tables and open lectures of leading experts in the field of criminal law, criminal procedure and criminalistics, communication with potential employers form professional competencies for future specialists. During the fourth term students have the opportunity to undertake an internship at the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. At the department there is a criminalistics room, a well equipped educational and research room of a polygraph examiner to conduct practical classes.

Career

Special courses at Master's programme "Crime prevention: legal regulation and  implementation practice " involves postgraduate students in solving practical problems of applying criminal law and criminal procedural norms in order to enhance the fight against crime taking into account foreign experience of countries with different legal systems, social, political and economic state of the society, moral values that dominate ​​in it. Knowledge gained at Master`s programme is applicable in law enforcement agencies and security sphere, psychological profiling.
