About the profession

Cicero said: "history is the teacher of life."

Even antique authors started to systematise knowledge about peoples and their past, to compare and highlight similarities in their development, to formulate laws. Everything in historic process is interconnected, that is why a historian must be able to identify causal relationships among the events. Phenomena and contradictions of the contemporary world have origins in the past.  A historian is necessarily an analyst. He should identify credible facts from different sources, from archaeological to written and multimedia ones.  To do it, he must master modern methods of historical research and IT technology, ancient and foreign languages.

Educational process

History students consistently study the history of human civilization at the Department of World history and the history of our country - Russia, at the Department of Russian history. As a result of the training we have a universal specialist who can orientate in world historical process and characteristics of historical epochs and civilizations, know the history of regions and specific countries. History students study Western languages (English, French, Spanish, German) and Oriental languages (Arabic, Chinese, Farsi); Latin. It is not only activates the communication, but also expands research opportunities, explore a variety of sources and scientific literature.

Practical Training

In the practical application of knowledge, language and practical training courses play an important role. 

• Archaeological field practice is one of the most memorable events in students’ life (Moscow and Moscow region, Krasnodar region, Tyva Republic, France, Italy, etc.)
• Pedagogical practice of students takes place in Moscow schools, where they can apply not only to their vocational and historical knowledge, but also communication, educational and organisational competence. 
• Archival practice is held in the archives of scientific institutes of Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian State archive of Ancient Acts, the State Historical Museum, where students have the opportunity to "touch history" literally - historical documents-living witnesses epochs (Chronicles, letters, diaries, manuscripts, etc.)
• Language training courses: Egyptian-Russian University (Cairo, Egypt); University of Jordan (Amman, Jordan); Shandong University; Xi'an University, Xiamen University, Weihai (China); Dublin School of English (Ireland), Inbispania (Madrid, Spain). The programmes of  included training: University of the Balearic Islands (Palma de Mallorca, Spain), University of Pierre Mendes France (Grenoble, France).
