About the profession
Anatomy traditionally and deservedly belongs to the number of fundamental disciplines, within the framework of which the materialistic ideas of the unity of man with the animal world on the Earth, the connections of human organism with the environment, the integrity of the organism and the variety of manifestations of its vital activity, the development of structural-functional characteristics of the organism in ontogeny and other ideas are formed. In the 21st century the educational process in the field of medicine requires the use of new methods of information delivery due to the richness of the information environment and the changed approach of postgraduate students to mastering the material. Following this trend, the Department of Human Anatomy of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) is constantly improving training materials and teaching methods: modern teaching aids meeting the increased requirements of postgraduate students to the material presented are developed; the system of knowledge assessment is improved that takes into account the all-round involvement of postgraduate students in the educational process; emphasis is placed on the use of multimedia tools and interactive teaching methods. Specialists with a higher medical, biological or pharmaceutical education, who wish to fulfill their intellectual potential in the field of fundamental science, choose postgraduate studies in the field of study “Human Anatomy”. PhD graduates acquire a full set of universal, general professional and professional competences on the structure of the human body at various levels (from the organismic to the ultramicroscopic and molecular levels) with due account for many diverse and dynamic formative factors (age, gender, body type, etc.), master the skills of dissection of the cadaveric material, allowing to independently conduct research and teaching activities within the framework of this special field.
Already in the first year of study students are intensively immersed in the special field. In the process of training, postgraduate students study a full range of educational disciplines, undertake educational and on-the job internships where they learn to work with anatomical specimen and master dissection skills. Postgraduate students, who successfully mastered the programme, present a scientific report on the main results of scientific work and pass a state examination as part of the state final certification, which allows them to receive a qualification “Researcher. Research Instructor”.
Foreign Language, History and Philosophy of Science, Higher Education Pedagogy, Methodology of Scientific Research, Human Anatomy, General Anatomy of Body Systems, Cardiovascular System Anatomy, Structural-Functional Basis of the Microcirculation System.
As part of training, postgraduate students undertake scientific-research and teaching internships and, under the guidance of professors of the department, conduct research as part of the thesis work, dissect the cadaveric material. Anatomy has developed as an analytical science since it is based on the analysis, which implies the decomposition of a complex organism and separate organs into their constituent elements. Various methods are used in anatomy for these purposes: dissection (preparation), enlightenment and selective coloring of tissues, filling of blood and lymphatic vessels with conservation fluids and colored masses, radiography, computed tomography and other modern research methods. In addition, there are microscopic methods of obtaining knowledge of the structure of elements of the human body with the use of optical and electronic microscopes, which allow considering the finest structures.
Having successfully mastered the educational programme, you will be able to conduct scientific research, teach anatomy in Russian and foreign universities, will acquire professional competences in the creation, translation, abstracting, editing, examination of scientific publications of various types. The main tool of your work is working with anatomical specimen and teaching students to work with them. Starting with the position of an assistant, PhD graduates of RUDN University have the opportunity to become an associate professor, a professor, as well as a head of the Department of Anatomy.
In scientific research activities, in the field of morphology the following tasks of professional activity are solved: fundamental research in the field of experimental and clinical anatomy.
In the field of teaching activities on educational programmes of higher education: the development and improvement of the methods of teaching anatomy using virtual computer technologies, training the skills of dissection of separate organs and a specimen body as a whole, development of training courses in the areas of professional activity, including the preparation of methodological materials, manuals and textbooks; performing research work in the educational organization, including the supervision of students’ research work.
