About the profession

The programme is aimed at training a qualified infectious disease physician with a system of general cultural and professional competences, who can and is ready for the independent professional activity in conditions of primary healthcare, specialized, including high-tech medical care; emergency, including specialized medical care, a specialist, who can participate in clinical trials, present results in various forms and introduce them into practical medical activities.

Training process

The programme is implemented with the use of various forms of training, including advanced electronic and remote educational technologies, the possibility of mastering practical skills in a multidisciplinary hospital under the guidance of experienced specialists. The training of modern practical skills is supplemented by the simulation education course. The Department of Infectious Diseases with Courses of Epidemiology and Phthisiology closely cooperates with leading specialists of the Central Research Institute of Tuberculosis, the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and the Federal Scientific and Methodological Center for AIDS Control and Prevention.


Medical residents are distributed to the units of the clinical sites of the department, where, under the guidance of professors of the department, they have the opportunity both to expand their knowledge and see its application in practice. Students analyze clinical events and this provides the opportunity to obtain a wealth of clinical experience during residency training.


Graduates of the residency programme on the specialization can conduct their activities in specialized healthcare institutions, multidisciplinary medical institutions that have in their structure specialized diagnostic and treatment units (centers) for diagnosing and treating infectious patients. Upon completion of the residency programme, the students have the opportunity to enroll in the postgraduate programme on the specialization “Infectious diseases”.
