Profession Focus

Study process

Originally the University taught and trained only specialists in international law. In 1978 the specialty "Jurisprudence" started with the opportunity to study international law deeper since the second semester of the 3d course. In 2005 the education on "International law" began as the Specialist’s Degree (5 years) in parallel with the "Jurisprudence" as the Specialist’s Degree (5 years). Since the academic year 2014\2015 the specialization "International law" was opened at the bachelor level within the specialty "Jurisprudence".

In "International law" deep study of basic course in public international law is provided within three semesters. In the third semester this course will be practice-oriented.

The curriculum of the specialization is ensured by the Interuniversity Resource Center in the Institute of Law with the unique literature on international law, including in English and other official UN languages.

Teaching international legal disciplines among the specialization is provided by the Department of international law of the Institute of Law, having strong partnership with Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice of Russia, Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Regional Office of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies in Russia, representatives of international organizations accredited in Russia by State Duma and Federation Council of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Office of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation.

The students joining this programme undergo pre-graduation internship on the basis of the international law department.

Graduates’ expertise and career opportunities

Knowledge gained at the bachelor level can be applied while working in international organizations, embassies, consulates, public services (for example, in Office of the Commissioner of the European Court of human rights of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia), as well as dealing with complaints to the European Court of Human Rights, in the international tribunals, the Secretariat of the international courts, etc.
