Methods of Teaching Languages. Translation Studies, Simultaneous Interpretation
Despite the fact that knowledge of foreign languages is becoming a norm in the context of globalization, profound linguistic knowledge remains highly in demand in various fields, be it teaching, oral or written translation or simultaneous interpretation. Simultaneous interpretation is one of the most complex types of interpretation, when the interpreter is translating into the target language while hearing the speech in the original language. This requires specialized skills and serious preparation.
Mastering a foreign language "perfectly", learning how to feel it is possible only by means of constant contact with representatives of the culture of the studied language. It is this immersion in the linguistic and cultural environment that is offered to students of the master's program in linguistics at the Philological Faculty: students study in multinational groups, master many professional disciplines in a foreign language.
The program provides skills for successful work in the field of linguistics, translation studies and methods of teaching foreign languages.
The acquired skills include:
- Expert linguistic analysis of oral and written speech in any language for practical purposes.
- Skills of scientific and pedagogical activity at all levels, including higher, postgraduate and supplementary professional education.
- Application of modern methods of teaching foreign languages and cultures and evaluating the quality of the resultss.
- Simultaneous interpretation. The training is conducted through the University's own method of preparing interpreters which synchronizes the most successful Russian and foreign approaches.
Video courses, webinars, videoconferences, presentations, discussions, debates are widely used in the conducting of practical classes and seminars, as well as lectures. Tasks for independent work, which involves dealing with interactive online content, have been updated in the curricula of the basic disciplines.
Students participate in face-to-face and online conferences with their colleagues from countries of the studied languages, have the opportunity to undergo linguistic and research internships in foreign partner universities of the faculty.
For practical training, students are invited to work as interpreters at major international sports competitions, cultural, economic and political forums, acquire experience in teaching.
Graduates master at least two foreign languages on a professional level and can work as translators, simultaneous interpreters, teachers. They can also become in demand as specialists in various fields: IT-technologies, research centers, foreign economic activity, creative industries, etc.
