About the profession

Nanoengineering is the main vector of industrialization in the 21th century. It is considered that the speech “There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom” by a physicist Richard Feynman (American Physical Society, December 29, 1959) inspired scientists to conduct research in the field of nanotechnology. Feynman described a process, which allowed manipulating individual atoms and molecules. Nanotechnologies have become a part of human life since 2001, when a scientific journal “Science” called nanotechnologies “the Breakthrough of the Year”, while a business magazine “Forbes” – “a new promising idea”. Ten years later, third-generation nanosystems and nanostructures were created, where synthesis and assembly technologies were used, such as bioassembly, surface robotics, modular nanosystems, chemical and mechanical processing of molecular and quantum nanosystems.

Training process

A student is both a listener and an active participant in group and individual projects; interactive and case study methods. Classes are held with the use of multimedia technologies, webinars, teleconferences, where the focus is on the problems of the main trends of modern nanoengineering and engineering nanotechnology. The profession-oriented material is learnt in the context of the main directions of development of nanoengineering through special disciplines of the programme:

During training, students learn theoretical foundations of physical processes (physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, mechanics), receive comprehensive mathematical training, become familiar with methods and means for nano-dimensional measurements. Students have the opportunity to undertake production-technological internships at experimental-measuring and technological facilities of nanocenters in Moscow, including the Nanotechnology Center at RUDN University. Students conduct research in the fields of nanometrology, nanomaterials, nanosystems, etc.
