There is a number of symptoms that can be considered as an immediate reason for seeking medical help provided by a nephrologist; such symptoms make such assistance absolutely necessary. These include the following manifestations: anuria - a condition, when a patient completely stops urinating; oliguria - a condition characterized by pronounced contraction of urination; polyuria - a condition characterized by an increase in the volume of excreted urine; pain in the lumbar region; hematuria - the appearance of blood in the urine; proteinuria - the appearance of protein in the urine. Consultations and supervision of a nephrologist are important even in case of previously diagnosed diseases or acute manifesting conditions; therefore this is a very important specialist responsible for the health of some of the most important human organs - kidneys.
The educational residency programme "Nephrology" is developed for people with higher medical education, aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the field of prevention of any kidney diseases, early diagnosis of diseases, supervision of patients with congenital defects of the kidneys and after surgical interventions. Training is practically oriented and aimed at the formation of system knowledge and professional competences that allow conducting medical activities.
Medical residents are distributed to the units of the clinical sites of the department, where, under the guidance of professors of the department, they have the opportunity both to expand their knowledge and see its application in practice. Students analyze clinical events and this provides the opportunity to obtain a wealth of clinical experience during residency training.
A graduate of the residency programme is a highly qualified specialist, who can apply modern high-tech methods of diagnosis and treatment and carry out therapeutic, diagnostic, research activities, engage in private medical practice. Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to work in public hospitals, private clinics, medical secondary schools, higher educational institutions of medical specialization, scientific organizations, polyclinics, consultative-diagnostic centers.
