About the profession

Diseases of the nervous system are one of the multiple branches of medicine that is important for clinical practice. The nervous system is of great importance for health and pathology of the human body. The place of diseases of the nervous system in a number of other disciplines is determined by the leading and well-known principle of the anatomical and functional integrity of the organism. Therefore, the in-depth study of the nervous system is determined by the closest link between this discipline and infectious diseases, pediatrics, therapy, ophthalmology, dentistry, anesthesiology, resuscitation and other specialties. A special discipline of nervous diseases refers to the professional cycle of disciplines and is the basis of professional specialization.

Training process

The department teaches the discipline "Nervous diseases and neurosurgery" to students of the fields of study "Dentistry" and "Medical care", studying at the fourth year of study.

The Department trains highly qualified personnel as part of the full-time postgraduate training programme: "Nervous diseases”.

Postgraduate students are trained for 3 years on a full-funding and contract basis in accordance with the state educational standard. The purpose of the postgraduate educational standard of higher education on the specialization 14.01.11 “Nervous diseases”:

More than 18 postgraduate students have been trained in the Department of Nervous Diseases and Neurosurgery of RUDN University during its existence; many of these students successfully work in various regions of Russia and the world.


 The scientific research internship is organized in close relationship with the research work of a postgraduate student and contributes to the formation of competences necessary for conducting scientific research and to the development of the skills of independent scientific research work within the departmental scientific school.

The teaching internship implies learning the disciplines "Nervous diseases" (knowledge, skills and abilities gained in learning this subject are necessary for the competent development of the content of training sessions); "Teaching methodology" (consolidation of knowledge, skills and abilities of methodological development and analysis of the basic forms of training sessions and extracurricular activities, explaining, testing and control of knowledge, organizing the educational work with students).


Having successfully mastered the educational programme, you will be able to solve professional tasks in the field of clinical medicine, covering a set of theoretical and applied problems, as well as the related medical and biomedical disciplines. The final original scientific research will contribute to the creation, expansion and development of scientific knowledge.

The main areas of the department’s research activities:

The study of etiology, pathogenesis and development of new effective methods of diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases, somatoneurological syndromes.
