About the profession

The nervous system is one of the most complex and multifunctional structures of the body. The most frequent reasons for contacting a neurologist are as follows: migraines, neuralgia, sleep disorders, depression, spinal osteochondrosis, intracranial hypertension and vegetovascular dystonia. In addition, a neurologist diagnoses and prescribes treatment for diseases typical of the elderly, such as: Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, senile dementia (senile psychosis). Besides, the scope of the neurologist's activity includes the treatment of such serious diseases as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, encephalopathy. The neurologist's duty is to examine and treat patients who have suffered craniocerebral trauma or surgical interventions affecting the nervous system, as well as patients who survived stroke. A neurologist is a profession worthy of respect. Each year, each of these doctors saves a huge number of lives and preserves a normal life for an even greater number of people.

Training process

The educational residency programme "Neurology" is developed for people with higher medical education, aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the field of diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, the study of the causes and mechanisms of a disease, its symptoms, methods of diagnosis and treatment of a disease, as well as preventive measures.


Medical residents are distributed to the units of the clinical sites of the department, where, under the guidance of professors of the department, they have the opportunity both to expand their knowledge and see its application in practice. Students analyze clinical events and this provides the opportunity to obtain a wealth of clinical experience during residency training.


A graduate of the residency programme is a highly qualified specialist, who can apply modern high-tech methods of diagnosis and treatment and carry out therapeutic, diagnostic, research activities, engage in private medical practice. Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to work in public hospitals, private clinics, medical secondary schools, higher educational institutions of medical specialization, scientific organizations, polyclinics, consultative-diagnostic centers, hospitals. Upon completion of the residency programme, the students have the opportunity to enroll in the postgraduate programme on the specialization “Nervous diseases”.
