About the profession

A profession of an obstetrician-gynecologist requires a person to have a certain wealth of knowledge, which will be useful in professional and personal terms. Obstetrics is a universal field of medical activity, since representatives of this profession should be able to help both an adult and a child. In addition, the professional activity of obstetrician-gynecologists is related to performing planned and emergency surgeries, pregnancy care and delivery, including obstructed labour, carrying out diagnostic and treatment procedures, patient round and consultation, etc. The work of an obstetrician-gynecologist is characterized by the constant readiness of a specialist for emerging complicated situations requiring the attention, precise and fine coordination of sensory and motor functions. The department trains specialists for different regions of the Russian Federation, CIS countries and for foreign countries. Much work is constantly done to train our own teaching staff from among young RUDN graduates, who have obtained the necessary specialization at the department and have experience of the work with foreign students, postgraduate and doctoral students.

Training process

The programme is aimed at training a specialist with basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the diagnosis, therapy and prevention of various complications of pregnancy and childbirth, gynecological diseases, a specialist who has reached the level necessary for scientific work and activities in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.


Medical residents are distributed to the units of the clinical sites of the department, where, under the guidance of professors of the department, they have the opportunity both to expand their knowledge and see its application in practice. Students analyze clinical events and this provides the opportunity to obtain a wealth of clinical experience during residency training.


A graduate of the residency programme is a highly qualified specialist, who can apply modern high-tech methods of diagnosis and treatment and carry out therapeutic, diagnostic, research activities, engage in private medical practice. Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to work in public hospitals, private clinics, maternity welfare centers, mother and child care centers, dermatovenereology clinics. Upon completion of the residency programme, the students have the opportunity to enroll in the postgraduate programme on the specialization "Obstetrics and gynecology".
