About the profession
The structure of the child’s oral cavity, like the whole organism, has its own peculiarities, therefore, young patients’ teeth should be treated directly by a pediatric dentist. Many believe that milk teeth fall out themselves and should not be filled, and if they started to decay, they should be removed. Actually, the child’s future health depends on their state, and if sick teeth are removed without hesitation, then their followers – molar teeth will also be prone to caries and grow crooked. Treatment of children's teeth requires special tools and materials, special equipment and methods of anesthesia – a pediatric dentist should know this. In addition, correction of the wrong bite is also part of his/her duties. This specialist should have knowledge of child psychology, the ability to treat a child during treatment, charm, restraint, benevolence. These qualities are acquired by a resident in the process of training. A pediatric dentist influences the child’s memories of visits to the dental office and the way he/she will perceive these visits in future.
The educational residency programme "Pediatric dentistry" is developed for people with higher medical education, aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the field of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and disorders of teeth, jaws and other organs of the oral cavity and maxillofacial apparatus of children under 14 years old.
