About the profession

The child's organism is characterized by immaturity of the nervous system and features of anatomy that are distinctive from those of an adult. Therefore, a specific field was separated from general surgery - pediatric surgery. The tasks of this field of medicine are diagnostics, prevention and surgical treatment of children’s diseases, as well as the identification and elimination of malformations. Like any doctor of other medical specialty, a pediatric surgeon interviews, makes a diagnosis, prepares a patient for surgery, does the surgery and monitors the patient’s health condition in the postoperative period. In addition, the specialist records the information about the patient's health condition and all medical procedures in the medical history card. Pediatric surgery includes research and practical activities in many branches of medicine, such as general, purulent and emergency surgery, treatment of benign tumors, orthopedics, traumatology, coloproctology, urology, neurosurgery, thoracic surgery, vascular malformations, surgical gastroenterology.
