About the profession

The task of today’s plastic surgery is to eliminate anatomical and (or) functional defects of cover and underlying tissues of any localization, resulting from hereditary and congenital malformations, acute injuries and their consequences, diseases and surgical interventions, including iatrogenic defects and traumatic amputations of limbs, their segments and other fragments of the human body of any localization, requiring, among other things, the use of the microsurgical technique and microsurgical methods (reconstructive plastic surgery). The demand for the correction of congenital and acquired deformities resulting from diseases or injuries and their consequences, increases annually. The demand for aesthetic operations to correct the contours of the body is constantly growing. The modern trend of plastic surgery is a significant expansion of the possibilities of specialized treatment due to the introduction into the clinical practice of stable-functional osteosynthesis, reconstructive operations on vessels, nerves, tendons, plastic replacement of defects of bones and soft tissues using microsurgical technologies, the use of computer prototyping of damaged or lost parts body at the stage of surgical planning, etc. All this allows achieving the best anatomical and functional results.

Training process

The programme of residency training corresponds to the state requirements for training surgical specialists and focuses on the development of practical skills and the work in the operating room. The structure of training: during the training, a resident has the opportunity to participate in all the surgical operations that make up the essence of plastic surgery: rhinoplasty, mammoplasty, plastic surgery in case of age-related face and neck changes and liposuction. The lecture material reflects the main issues of the legislative and legal framework of the activities of a plastic surgeon and a plastic surgery clinic.


Residents are distributed to the units of the clinical sites of the department, where, under the guidance of professors of the department, they have the opportunity both to expand their knowledge and see its application in practice. Students analyze clinical events and this provides the opportunity to obtain a wealth of clinical experience during residency training.


A graduate of the residency programme is a highly qualified specialist, who can apply modern high-tech methods of diagnosis and treatment and carry out therapeutic, diagnostic, research activities, engage in private medical practice. Graduates of the programme have the opportunity to work in public hospitals, private clinics, cosmetology institutes, clinical-diagnostic centers, multidisciplinary clinical centers. Upon completion of the residency programme, the students have the opportunity to enroll in the postgraduate programme on the specialization "Surgery".
