About the profession
The programme is aimed at training a specialist in the field of medicine studying the causes of the occurrence, mechanisms and manifestations of various diseases of the genitourinary system, their diagnostics, prevention and treatment in men, women and children. The training process consists of regular practical classes held in city hospitals, regional centers, hospitals. In addition, the curriculum includes lectures given to residents by outstanding specialists. The practical work of a resident consists in the assistance in operations, participation in consultations, the work in a polyclinic, participation in scientific conferences, keeping medical records, the performance of medical and diagnostic manipulations. The training of a resident is directly connected with his/her supervisors and fully corresponds to the work of a specialist.
The educational residency programme "Urology" is developed for people with higher medical education, aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the study of pathogenesis of disorders of organs of the urinary and reproductive system of men and women, kidney and adrenal gland diseases and other pathologies that occur in small pelvis. Training is practically oriented and aimed at the formation of system knowledge and professional competences that allow conducting medical activities. Methodical teaching aids used in university practice and medical organizations have been developed. The results of research of the problems of improving medical education were reflected in the information-analytical materials for the Ministry of Health of Russia. The results obtained are recommended for the use in practical activities of scientific organizations and centers, educational and medical organizations.
The following types of classes are used to implement the programme in the training process: lectures, seminars, clinical conferences, practical classes. Practical classes include classes at clinical sites – mastery of the methods of diagnostics and treatment of urological diseases. Classes at the departments of physical methods of diagnostics (ultrasound, X-ray diagnostics) provide for the mastery of visualization methods used in urology.
A graduate of the residency programme is a highly qualified specialist, who can apply modern high-tech methods of diagnosis and treatment and carry out therapeutic, diagnostic, research activities, engage in private medical practice. Future specialists have the opportunity to work in public hospitals, private clinics, medical secondary schools, higher educational institutions of medical specialization, scientific organizations, polyclinics, consultative-diagnostic centers, research institutes. Upon completion of the residency programme, the students have the opportunity to enroll in the postgraduate programme on the specialization “Urology”, which will allow future specialists to hold key positions or engage in scientific activities.
