In October 2016, RUDN launched an Advanced PhD Program. The new model is aimed at training promising researchers in accordance with international requirements; at encouraging the most talented academic career-oriented PhD students; at the involvement of young researchers in the international academic community by providing opportunity for participating in research.
Fundamental features of the program:
- a monthly stipend of additional 45 000 rubles. RUDN allocates funding to create comfortable conditions for PhD students and the opportunity for them to fully engage in research;
- the possibility of internships at world's leading universities and research centers;
- full-time engagement of PhD students in academic work. During the day, as part of additional individual plans, they conduct research in the field of the main area of study under the guidance of the leading foreign researchers and/or the University's scholars.
- an additional individual plan of the Advanced PhD program students involves an increase in the research compexity (an additional 18 hours a week) and teaching practice (an additional 25 hours a week), in-depth study of special subjects as well as additional teaching load.
The program therefore encourages PhD students to develop their academic career, adapts them as much as possible to the scientific environment, generates practice-oriented competences demanded by employers.
In 2016, as a result of the selection for studying under the Advanced PhD program, 23 PhD students in the following training areas were admitted: "Mathematics and Mechanics", "Chemistry", "Computer Science and Engineering", "Clinical Medicine", "Agriculture", " Fundamental Medicine", "Linguistics and Literature", "Biological Sciences". The plans for 2017 include admitting 22 PhD students in February and 97 in September.
In 2023, the Public Council of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science conducted an independent assessment of the quality of conditions for educational activities. More than 300 universities and branches provided information on the quality of education.
