27 February, Dr. Qian Tang, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education in the frame of a working visit to Russia addressed the members of the Academic Council with a lecture «SDG4 – Education 2030 Agenda and Higher Education».
UNESCO delegation met Rector Vladimir Filippov and visited RUDN Mission control center. «It is big pleasure and honor for us to be at RUDN again. You have a very good university and I am proud to be RUDN Doctor Honoris Causa», said Dr.Tang. It is not Dr.Tang’s first time at RUDN – in 2014, RUDN Academic Council by a unanimous decision conferred the title of Doctor Honoris Causa on Dr.Tang for his contribution in science, culture. Education and international academic cooperation.
Talking to the members of RUDN Academic Council and invited guests Dr.Tang highlighted two main tasks of education today – «create» peace and «ensure sustainable development». «Education today is not just the ability to read and write. It means to be a responsible citizen, to prevent wars, manifestations of cruelty and intolerance to people. Today it is not enough to talk about higher education – we need a complex approach to educating adults and children, quality education in remote regions, equal education of boys and girls. The «SDG4 – Education 2030 Agenda and Higher Education» program has 17 aims to be reached by 2030. And this is or common aim», Dr.Tang stressed.
Being a global university RUDN is significantly contributing to the development of world standards quality available education. Academic and scientific cooperation with UNESCO and other international organizations is envisaged in university road maps, while the dialogue of cultures and interdisciplinarity are a tradition and daily practice of every RUDN student, Alumni or staff member.
