Topical issues of European and Oriental languages under globalization discussed at RUDN
The research and practice seminar "Languages and Culture: Prospects for Development in the 21st Century" took place at RUDN Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in November (in Russian, English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Arabic, Italian and Japanese).

On the agenda of the event the current problems of the European and Oriental languages under conditions of globalization were discussed:
· Peculiarities of functioning, prospects for development and interaction;
· The English language globalization problems and prospects for development of other national languages;
· Westernization and export of western values; individualism, democracy and liberty;
· Systemic crisis in the advanced countries; civilizations evolution dynamics; human rights;
· Social modernization;
· Growth of social polarization; antiglobalism;
· Fundamentalism, radical movements, terrorism;
· Prospects for development of international and regional organizations;
· The West against other civilizations.
The conference was attended by students and postgraduatesof 9 leading universities of Russia: RUDN, Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, MSPU, MCU, European University in St. Petersburg, Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University, Ryazan State University named for S.Yesenin, MGIMO and HSE.
The participants’ speeches made a point of the necessity to develop overall and specific professional competences of a translator in the field of professional communication, combining language and professional training, optimum balance of background and applied knowledge in the field of foreign language and primary specialization of students, activating scientific-creative and scientific-practical work with students.
Based on the results of the conference, the source book will be published.
