Ecology, pharmacy, agronomy… RUDN University develops cooperation with Cuban universities

On May 14–23, a RUDN University delegation visited Cuba on a working trip. The program includes: cooperation agreements with leading Cuban universities, a meeting with graduates, an Olympiad on financial security.

May 16–19, RUDN University signed cooperation agreements with the Technological University named after Jose Antonio Echeverria, the Agrarian University of Havana and the Havana University of Medical Sciences. RUDN and Cuban universities agreed to sign work programs in the areas of “Ecology”, “Pharmacy”, “Agronomy”, “Veterinary and Aquaculture” and “Quality, Safety and Audit of Food Products”.

May 18, a meeting of graduates of Soviet and Russian universities was held at the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba. Amelia Brita Rojos, the first Cuban graduate of the Faculty of Engineering of People’s friendship university 1965, was presented with a RUDN commendation letter.

“This is a very emotional moment for me! I was the first Cuban student who came to study at the university. Subsequently, she became the first Cuban woman geologist. In my opinion, it is not the university that should thank me, but I should thank him for the knowledge that I received. We are all proud to be graduates of the Peoples’ Friendship University!” — Amelia Brita Rojos.

May 19, RUDN University organized a round table at the University of Havana “Regenerative biology and medicine. Promising directions and clinical application”. It was attended by Cuban doctors, heads of medical laboratories, scientists and researchers. The participants exchanged surgical experience in the treatment of purulent complications and wound defects, and discussed treatment using modern medical technologies.

At the session on the use of modern molecular genetic and cellular technologies, the participants discussed the creation of joint or mirror competence centers, as well as laboratories for students and young scientists from Russia and Cuba, participation in joint grant research and projects.

May 19, RUDN University held an Olympiad on financial security. It was attended by 70 students of Cuban universities.

  • Valeriy Mitishch, PhD in Medical Sciences, Head of the Department of Disaster Medicine of the Institute of Medicine;
  • Anastasia Lohonina,PhD in Biological Sciences, Deputy Director of the National Research Institute of Molecular and Cellular Medicine;
  • Madeleine Vanessa Ronquillo Zamora, Translator, Resident, Assistant in the Department of Disaster Medicine, Medical Institute.

The visit is timed to coincide with the 20th meeting of the intergovernmental Russian-Cuban commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.

RUDN University and Ghana: Common Strategy for Education-Business-Science

RUDN University is to train 100 specialists in Agronomy and Ecology for Ghana at the request of its industrial partner, the Jospong Group, which unites 60 companies. The number of trained personnel will amount to over 600 within 5 years. The fields of study which are of interest to the partner include Agronomy, Information Technology, Applied Nature Management, Ecology. The company is ready to pay for travel, accommodation and scholarships for these students. RUDN University will accept students within preferential rights.

“This trip would be incomplete without visiting the university”: on the visit of the delegation of the Republic of The Gambia to RUDN University

The delegation of the Republic of The Gambia led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mamadou Tangara visited the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. Members of the delegation met with Rector Oleg Yastrebov and the staff of the Agricultural and Technological Institute of RUDN University, went on a tour of biotechnological laboratories and a laboratory for studying soils chemical composition and properties.
