RUDN opens a Center for Russian Language and Culture in Mali

December 13, RUDN Institute of the Russian Language opened the Center for Russian Language and Culture “Russian Space” at the University of Arts and Humanities of Bamako (Republic of Mali).

The opening ceremony was attended by:

  • Bourema Kansaye — Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Mali;
  • Idrisa Soiba Traoré — Rector of the University of Arts and Humanities;
  • Dmitry Vlasov — Head of the Consular Section of the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Mali.

“Noting the high significance of opening the center, I believe that it will become another strong and reliable bridge uniting the interests of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Mali in the field of higher and further education. I am confident that educational, cultural and informational events implemented by the center will be in demand not only among students and teachers of the University of Arts and Humanities, but will also become a place of attraction for the youth of Bamako. The opportunity to study the Russian language will allow Malian young people to take part in international academic mobility programs of leading Russian universities, which will help increase the number of highly qualified specialists for the development of the economy of the Republic of Mali,” Ksenia Trinchenko, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.

The Center for Russian Language and Culture is intended to contribute to the expansion of humanitarian cooperation between RUDN University and educational organizations of the Republic of Mali, also helping develop bilateral relations between the countries. RUDN University will render educational, methodological and technological support at Russian language courses.

“The work of the center will promote not only linguistic and cultural education, but will also become a driving force for the emergence of new ideas, talents and common projects,” Oleg Yastrebov, Rector of RUDN University.

During the ceremony, the University of Arts and Humanities of Bamako and RUDN University signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in science and education.

“We highly value the relationship between our universities. The opening of the Russian Space Center at the University of Arts and Humanities of Bamako and the conclusion of a cooperation agreement will be the key to further joint work, which will make a significant contribution to the development of the education system of the Republic of Mali. I am sure that the Center will not only be a place for studying the Russian language and preparing for studying at Russian universities, but will become a bridge connecting Russian universities and Malian schools and universities,” Angela Dolzhikova, Director of the Russian Language Institute of RUDN University.
