“This trip would be incomplete without visiting the university”: on the visit of the delegation of the Republic of The Gambia to RUDN University
Six students from the Gambia are studying at RUDN University, majoring in “Architecture”, “International Relations”, “Nursing”, “Neurosurgery”, “Pharmacy”, and “Systems Analysis, Management and Information Processing, Statistics”.
We are honored that we have trained more than 60 specialists for the Gambia: mainly in medicine, engineering and agricultural sciences. We are going to continue the work at all levels of education, both in bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and in postgraduate school.
We see the potential for development and are ready to train more students and increase exchange. I know that the priority is in training students at the Agricultural and Technological Institute, the leader among all Russian universities in this area.
RUDN University is interested in implementing network educational programs with the University of the Gambia. A separate area in which the university is ready to participate is academic mobility.
When they asked me where I wanted to go during my visit, I said RUDN. I always wanted to study in Russia. Although this dream was not realized, nevertheless, I am here today. There are agreements on partnership and research programs between the National Agricultural Research Institute of the Gambia and the Agricultural and Technological Institute of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. This trip would not be complete without a visit to the university.
The delegation of the Republic of The Gambia comprised:
- Dr. Mamadou Tangara – Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad of the Republic of The Gambia;
- Ibu Sillah – Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of The Gambia;
- Ibraima Sisay – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of The Gambia to the Russian Federation;
- Lieutenant General (retired) Langtombong Tamba – Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Mission;
- Mr. Habibuli K. Jawo – Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of The Gambia in the Russian Federation.
RUDN Rector reminded that the university also provides efficient training in the field of continuing education. Last year, more than 70 Gambian citizens underwent retraining in further education programs, mainly at the Agricultural and Technological Institute.
At the Russia-Africa Summit in St. Petersburg, the President ordered to increase the quota for students from African countries. This quota will mainly go to our university and we will readily accept new students.
After the meeting with the Rector, representatives of the delegation went to the Agricultural and Technological Institute.
We are interested in training personnel for the Gambia not only in short-term programs of continuing professional education, but also in long-term, master’s programs. Areas of cooperation could include advanced training, exchange of experience between teachers, and restarting negotiations on the creation of a logistics center.
Members of the delegation talked with Gambian students.
Studying at RUDN University opened up many new opportunities for me. Now I am the president of the Gambia community at the university and vice-president of the Gambia Students' Union in Russia. For the second year in a row, we have been organizing a student week for Gambian students from all over the country to meet and interact. Every Saturday, our embassy residence hosts Gambian students from Moscow, where we get together and eat delicious Gambian dishes. On February 18, we will celebrate the Independence Day of the Gambia.
RUDN University is about the quality of education and a convenient grading system. In the Master's program we have online and offline classes. This format allows you to spend more time studying and conduct more research. Classes are usually held in the evening, so it is easier to combine study with work. The grading system at RUDN University is flexible and fair.
In my free time, I usually meet with my compatriots, we communicate and prepare national dishes.
RUDN Institute of Environmental Engineering is hosting the winners of the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards 2024 state scholarship program for the second time. The participants chose between 126 universities from 23 countries, including the USA, Canada and Australia. 25 best Indonesian students chose Russia and came to Moscow for the first time.
In the morning, the main building is always crowded, students rushing to their first class. Suddenly, there is a large group of smiling young people from Africa, very smartly dressed, wearing scarfs with two logos on them, one — a university logo and the other — an unfamiliar abbreviation JGC.
RUDN University welcomed a delegation of three Municipal Assemblies of the Republic of Ghana - Korle Klottey, La Dade-Kotopon and Ledzokuku. At the meeting the parties discussed the results of the educational school “Solid Waste Management and Circular Economy”, held at the Institute of Ecology of RUDN University this year.
