A whole century — Human and Expert. Anna Vasilievna Lyalina is 100 years old — serving the Accounting Department, the University and Peace

Anna Vasilievna Lyalina was born on October 17, 1922. She worked at the Peoples’ Friendship University from the year of its foundation. Today Anna Vasilievna turns 100 years old, 25 of which were devoted to the service to the University and 4 years to the Great Victory.

Anna Vasilievna Lyalina started working at the Peoples’ Friendship University as a senior accountant from the very first year of its foundation. She had been working at the University for 25 years, becoming Chief Accountant in 1968, and retired in 1985.

The life path of Anna Vasilievna is an example of serving the profession, the society and her home country.

Born to a family of collective farmers, she strove for knowledge and was not afraid of difficult tasks. She started working as a carver at a factory of artistic painting and embroidery at the age of 16. She studied at the evening school of working youth and completed nursing courses. During the Great Patriotic War, she served in the Soviet Army. After the Victory, she returned to her profession, working and graduating from the statistics college.

Anna Vasilievna managed to keep balance between work and family, being respected by colleagues and raising a daughter.

Since 1985, Anna Vasilievna has been retired, maintaining warm relations with RUDN University.

On October 17, 2022, on the day of her 100th birthday, RUDN University administration congratulates Anna Vasilievna Lyalina in the university, which unites professionals of several generations.

Colleagues speak about Anna Vasilievna Lyalina:

Anna Vasilievna Lyalina is an outstanding chief accountant of the University. And it’s not just that she worked for us for 25 years. Anna Vasilievna is remembered for a number of remarkable qualities, chief accountants seldom have.

Anna Vasilievna was easy to talk to, even in formal communication. Her knowledge and professionalism helped us, when the country began to experience economic difficulties, while we still had a lot of tasks. Even when it was difficult to allocate funds for some important things, she came up with ideas how to find these funds. At the time I was a young Head of the Scientific Department and badly needed that kind of professional advice.

Moreover, the experience of going through the Great Patriotic War as well as being at the battlefront had a great impact on Anna Vasilievna. She always appreciated people and life more than many others. Her colleagues, including the Rector- Vladimir Stanis, always listened to her opinion.

These qualities set the style of work not only in the Accounting Department, but also throughout the University

Vladimir Filippov
President of the Peoples' Friendship University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Education, in 1980-1987 – Head of the Scientific Department of the Peoples’ Friendship University

I was sitting in my office, a young accountant then. Suddenly the door opened and Anna Vasilievna came in saying: “I am Lyalina.” I answered: “Anna Vasilievna, I know perfectly well who you are,” and I see myself rising from my chair against my will, without even thinking.

The time she was working at the university was a very important period — the period of its intensive development. Many people say that, to a certain extent, accounting under Lyalina reached its peak, and then the years of perestroika began
