"Poems of the beloved poet — around the world in two weeks": #RUDN University Poetry Marathon flies around 54 countries

In Japan they read Sergei Yesenin, in India — Robert Rozhdestvensky, in Lebanon the lines of Mikhail Lermontov are heard, children in France recite Agniya Barto by heart, and in Ecuador — Alexander Pushkin. 393 videos, 1.5 thousand reactions, more than 50 thousand views, 54 countries and 31 cities of Russia — these are the results of #Poemmarathon at RUDN.

The Institute of the Russian Language of RUDN University came up with #Poemmarathon, which in two weeks became an international platform for lovers of Russian poetry. We received videos from our students and students of Russian and foreign universities, alumni, university friends and their children.

"There are three reasons why the #Poetmarathon appeared. First, the Institute of the Russian Language was established not so long ago, and we thought for a long time about an event that would be associated with the Institute, becoming its hallmark. Second, we wanted June 6 to become a big university-wide holiday. The third one is the Year of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication in the CIS countries, a major event for all the Commonwealth states. In the course of brainstorming, we came up with the idea of #Poemmarathon — an international poetry campaign in social networks. The #poetry-marathon started on the Day of Slavonic Literature — May 24, and ended on June 6 — on the Day of the Russian Language and the birthday of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin.

Students and staff of the university, RUDN University graduates and friends from all over the world took part in the #Poemmarathon. There are Russian schools abroad, our compatriots live abroad, they lack communication in Russian. The marathon has become an international platform that brought together people from different parts of the planet," said Anzhela Dolzhikova, Director of the Russian Language Institute, RUDN University.

In addition to the participants who fought for the main victory and in the nominations, Russian actors, journalists, TV presenters joined the marathon. Among them are Sergey Bezrukov, Svetlana Kryuchkova and Natalia Metlina.

For two weeks every day the employees of the institute received, wanched and downloaded dozens of videos. The participants read poems by more than 40 poets, the most popular were the works of Alexander Pushkin, Sergei Yesenin, Robert Rozhdestvensky, Eduard Asadov and Anna Akhmatova.

"There are many changeable and momentary phenomena in the modern world, therefore it is Russian poetry that can unite people with its constancy as a kind of footing and orientation towards traditional values. We all know that Russian literature, in its content, is about traditions, about how life should be. In a modern, rapidly changing world, something permanent is needed, something that you can look back at, and think: ‘Am I living and doing the right thing?’. This is the anchor that allows us to hold on!" said Anzhela Dolzhikova.

The winners of the #Poemmarathon were determined by the number of likes on the video. The video of the winner — Rahakbau Claude Zet Bernard — scored 5,600 views and 305 likes. The young man read a poem by Sergei Yesenin "Hail, My Dear Rus’". The winners in the nominations were also determined:
