«RUDN University Scientists Have Approved the Role of Zinc in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus»

Researchers from RUDN University and P. G. Demidov Yaroslavl State University have demonstrated an association between changes in the concentration of trace elements in blood (especially zinc) with prediabetes. The obtained data suggest that zinc metabolism disorders play an important role in the development of diabetes. The results of the study were published in Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology.

«Theoretical Physicists Are Modeling Complex Quantum Processes with Cold Atoms And Ions»

A group of researchers from Russia, Germany and Iran develops computational methods for creating a theory describing the behavior of cold atoms and ions in optical and electromagnetic traps. There is a high demand for these works due to the possibility of modeling with such completely controlled quantum systems of complex processes, from solid-state physics to high-energy physics. The projects on designing elements of a quantum computer and ultra-precise atomic clock based on trapped ultracold atoms and ions are being discussed. The results of the latest studies of the group were presented at the conference Grid, Cloud and High-Performance Computing in Science (Sinaia, Romania). The work was published in Physical Review E.

«Chemists have created compounds that can treat glaucoma»

Glaucoma is a serious disease associated with increased intraocular pressure, often leading to blindness. One treatment is to reduce aqueous humour secretion in the ciliary body of the eye by inhibiting the activity of special enzymes called carbonic anhydrases. Russian scientists from RUDN University have designed new compounds that can effectively reduce intraocular pressure by isoform selective inhibiting human carbonic anhydrase. The results of the study have been published in Bioorganic Chemistry.

RUDN Chemists Obtained New Compound for Molecular Machines

RUDN chemists and their colleagues developed an innovative method of crystallisation. This approach allowed to produce new complex mercuric compound with hybrid organic and inorganic ligands and highly unusual structure. Compounds such as these can be used to create molecular machines -- molecules capable of mechanical work. The results were published in Inorganic Chemistry.
