Seminar “Effective description of electromechanical coupling in myocardium model”
November 19, at 15:00 MSK
Topic: Effective description of electromechanical coupling in myocardium model.
The contraction mechanics of cardiac muscle, the stresses and strains developed, are closely related to the processes of muscle electrical activation. Violations of these relationships can lead to the incorrect responses in the mechanical activity of the muscle to the changes in the interstimulus intervals, while these responses play important role in the heart function under a physical exercise or arrhythmias. The mechanisms of transition from a change in the electric potential at the membrane of the cardiac muscle cell to its activation and contraction are called electromechanical coupling. The talk presents a discussion of such mechanisms and an attempt to describe it using a computationally simple model. Some results correctly reproducing the responses of muscle mechanical activity to the changes in the interstimulus intervals are presented.
