Scientific and methodological seminar “Linguistic and didactic questions on linguistics”
Seminar Theme: “Developing Thinking Capacity: The role of Philosophy for Children (P4C)”
Speaker: Keith J. Topping is Professor in the School of Education at the University of Dundee, UK.
Behind the abbreviation P4C (Philosophy for Children) is a whole academic community, distributed in 60 countries around the world. What is P4C?
NOT: about facts on the lives of great philosophers. NOT EVEN: the thoughts of great philosophers. BUT: the practical process of philosophizing, i.e. thinking.
The speaker will show practical methods for conducting a dialogue-discussion, ranging from the Socratic method to modern developments by Mathew Lipman (founder of the Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children (IAPC)), Daniel Goleman (author of the bestseller " Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ"), and others. Methods for stimulating discussion (The Stimulus) are considered using the example of Aesop’s fables and modern forms of storytelling in the form of short video, dramatic sketch or even dance.
But Does it Work? In conclusion, the speaker will demonstrate his own research on effects based on a huge amount of data collected in schools and universities.
Seminar language: English
