About the event

Speaker: Mozokhina Anastasya, researcher of the Interdisciplinary Scientific Center "Mathematical Modeling in Biomedicine" of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia

Topic: Quasi-one-dimensional models of lymph flow in the lymphatic vessels.

Annotation: The lymphatic system (LS) is an important part of the human body. It performs, among others, transport and filtration functions: about 10% of blood volume goes to the lymphatic system in the process of capillary filtration. In particular, LS distributes big cells, molecules, immune agents, and also infections. As a transport system LS contains lymphatic vessels that have valves inside the lumen and can produce active contractions. Valves which restrict backward flow, and active periodic contractions are extremely important features of the lymphatic vessels that influence lymph flow, and they must be implemented in models of lymph flow in the lymphatic vessels. Such models in the quasi-one-dimensional case are considered in the talk. Some solutions are found and discussed for these models. The quasi-one-dimensional model of the “muscle” pump is created.
