Commander of a platoon, company, battalion, one of the organizers of the 20th anniversary of the Victory in RUDN – Georgy Bruchinsky’s combat and scientific path
We continue to share the stories of front-line soldiers who created the Peoples’ Friendship University. Georgy Bruchinsky was born in 1917, graduated from the Leningrad Forestry Academy in 1939, and in 1941 graduated from the basic faculty of the Ivanovo Military Political School.
Military way
He participated in the battles of the Great Patriotic War from August 1941 to January 1943 on the Bryansk and Don fronts as a platoon, company, battalion commander, first assistant chief of staff of a rifle regiment.
After a severe wound and contusion, he was treated in a hospital. Then he was enrolled as a student at the Frunze Military Academy. He graduated from the Academy in 1946. Georgy Nikolayevich was a participant of the Victory Parade on June 24, 1945, on Red Square. After the war he continued his service in the Armed Forces of the USSR. His military rank was colonel.

- Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class;
- 21 medals for military service;
- 6 breastplates, including “For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War”, “For Combat Merit”, “For Irreproachable Service” in the Armed Forces of the USSR;
- jubilee medals, including: “In Memory of the 800th Anniversary of Moscow”, ‘In Memory of the 850th Anniversary of Moscow’, ‘For Valorous Labor in Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V.I. Lenin’.
Work at RUDN
Georgiy Nikolaevich started working at Peoples’ Friendship University in 1964 as a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, from 1982 to 2001 he headed the second department of the University.
In 1965, he organized the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Victory, which, with the support of Rector Sergey Rumyantsev, became an annual event. In 1975, together with other war veterans, he initiated the creation of the Council of Veterans of the Great Patriotic War and Labor. Since the foundation of the organization, he has been the Deputy Chairman of the RUDN Veterans Council.
