RUDN University have won Two Gold medals at the XXVIII Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies “Archimedes 2025”

Inventors from 26 countries and 35 regions of Russia presented more than 500 projects at the XVIII Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies “Archimedes”. 340 projects belong to Russian participants, and their foreign colleagues — 215. RUDN University initiatives were awarded two gold medals.

The program of the Archimedes 2025 salon includes:

  • exhibitions of inventions and trademarks;
  • conference;
  • seminars;
  • round tables;
  • lectures on topical issues of inventive and patent licensing activities.

During the exhibition, the salon was visited by heads of federal departments of large corporations, enterprises and foreign embassies, as well as specialists from federal and regional departments, students, students of schools and colleges.

Following the evaluation of the works of the participants in the competition program, the International Jury of the salon, headed by Academician, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Aldoshin, with the assistance of the Federal institute of Industrial property expert commission, awarded two gold medals to RUDN University projects.

  • "Phonetic visualisation", Faculty of Philology;
  • "Technology of standardization of abrasiveness assessment in dentistry", RUDN Institute of Digital Dentistry.

Phonetic Visibility Project

Author: Svetlana Deryabina, Svetlana Deryabina, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Language and Teaching Methods at the Faculty of Philology of the RUDN University.

The essence of the project: the use of ultrasound video recordings of the tongue at the moment of pronouncing Russian sounds and syllables. This new type of phonetic clarity will help foreigners to better understand the features of the Russian articulatory base, to work out the pronunciation of hard and soft consonants. The ultrasound video of the language is accompanied by tasks that pay attention to the important points for the correct pronunciation of Russian sounds. The project will also be useful in the training of future teachers of Russian as a foreign language.

“Since 2015 I have been teaching practical phonetics to Russian and foreign students. The electronic textbook on Russian phonetics “Phonetic video visualization” is the result of my accumulated experience in this field. In December 2023, I was on an OSI course at ISP RAS, where I learned about the experience of using ultrasound images of the tongue in linguistic research. During the course I realized how it can be used for teaching”, Svetlana Deryabina.

Project “Technology for standardization of abrasiveness assessment in dentistry”

Authors: Samvel Apresyan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Honored Inventor of the Russian Federation, Doctor of the Institute of Digital Dentistry of RUDN Institute of Digital Dentistry, Professor at the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry; Alexander Stepanov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honored Inventor of the Russian Federation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences; Svetlana Matelo, Ph.D. in Medicine, associate professor.

The essence of the project: abrasion of dental hard tissues and dental prostheses is caused by the impact of toothpaste, toothbrush and brushing regimen. For the past decades, abrasion has been assessed using the method recommended by the American Dental Association. However, this method is radiometric and expensive for manufacturers.

“Russia did not have its own technique for determining the abrasiveness of prophylactic dental products. We have developed a safe and accurate technology for assessing abrasiveness, including a device and an original technological process. The device is a rotary machine for testing toothbrushes and toothpastes. The use of rotary machine allows to study both the wear of toothbrush and the abrasiveness of the paste itself.

The technological process that we have developed allows us to calculate the abrasiveness index of toothpaste without using radioactive agents. This technology allows to standardize the procedure of toothpaste and toothbrush abrasiveness research, increasing the accuracy of assessments, and leads to obtaining comparable with each other different research results”, Samvel Apresyan.

In 2017, RUDN University scientists constructed a new explicit second-order precision difference scheme using modern computer algebra methods for 2-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations (NSE) [1]. This year, our mathematicians used a new scheme [2] to construct a numerical solution to the Cauchy problem with initial data (for t=0) as satisfying the continuity equation. Scientists managed to achieve previously unattainable accuracy of the continuity equation.
