The aim of the investigation was to assess the efficacy of the 3D reconstruction of the alveolar bone by means of guided bone regeneration based on computer-assisted 3D planning using a resorbable dental membrane. Materials and Methods. 35 practically healthy patients without a marked concomitant somatic pathology with a diagnosis of “partial teeth loss complicated by alveolar bone atrophy” took part in the study. All patients underwent reconstructive operations to eliminate the defects and restore the alveolar bone volume using guided bone regeneration procedure and resorbable dental membranes. Planning and operations were performed according to the developed unified protocol including computer-assisted 3D operation planning and fabrication of intraoperative templates for dental membranes using 3D prototyping. Results. The developed method of computer-assisted 3D operation planning and fabrication of intraoperative templates for dental membranes using 3D prototyping has proved to be effective as it reduces the time of operative intervention, excludes the risk of forming a smaller membrane of inadequate shape, gives the required bone volume. Conclusion. The proposed method of computer-assisted 3D operation planning and fabrication of intraoperative templates for dental membranes using 3D prototyping allows surgeons to improve the precision of the guided bone regeneration operations, to diminish the intraoperative time of membrane adaptation, and avoid the possibility of its mispositioning. At the same time, application of the resorbable dental membrane increases the efficacy of the 3D alveolar bone reconstruction.
The increase of glass ionomer cement operational and technological characteristics to fix non-removable structures plays an important role in orthopedic treatment reliability improvement. The purpose of the study was to perform a comparative evaluation of the film thickness and the fluidity of popular glass ionomer cements: Fuji 1 (GC, Japan), Meron (VOCO, Germany), Polyacrylin (TechnoDent, Russia). The study revealed the dynamics of film thickness change and the fluidity of cements with delayed loading 60, 90, 120, 150, 180 and 210 sec after the commencement of mixing under the powder/liquid ratio recommended by the manufacturers. Throughout the study, the smallest film thickness was demonstrated by the "Polyacrylin" cement and the greatest fluidity was found in the "Fuji 1" cement.
Aim: At present, due to the rapid development and improvement of modern technologies and methods of diagnosing, treatment, and prosthetics, dentistry has gone beyond the narrow specialty and cooperates with other medical disciplines. The success of the treatment of a dental patient depends on the possibility of using modern medical technologies and an objective assessment of the functional capabilities of the patient's body, for this purpose we used functional methods: Computer stabilometry, surface electromyography of the chewing muscles and neck muscles, and functional, physiological method for determining jaw relation. Materials and Method: This paper presents the data of the estimation of stabilometric indicator in 293 patients with major dental diseases accompanied by a decrease in the interalveolar distance and 102 patients without signs of decreased occlusal vertical dimension. Results and Discussion: The cases with the habitual occlusion with signs of decreased occlusal vertical dimension show significant (P < 0.001) deterioration of the main indicators of the balance function. Optimization of the jaw relation has led to significant improvement of the coefficient of the equilibrium function and the area of the statokinesigram ellipse. Conclusion: The significance of the functional state of the cervical spine in dental patients with a change in jaw relation was noted, which was also confirmed by the results of surface electromyography of the masticatory and cervix muscles.
Patients are characterized by locally advanced tumours in 70-80% of cases at presentation. Thus, the possibilities for curing and surgical treatment are limited. Total glossectomy, which involves tongue base resection, is associated with severe and permanent disabilities. Total glossectomy leads to severe dysphagia, alalia and social maladjustment. A number of issues motivated us to develop a new method of surgical treatment of locally advanced base of tongue cancer. Objective: To introduce new opportunities for surgical treatment of locally advanced cancer of the tongue base. Materials and Methods: Glossectomy was accomplished in five patients suffering from tongue cancer and admitted to N.N. Blokhin National Medical and Research Center of Oncology. Swallowing and speech were preserved in all 5 cases. Results: We developed a new technique of surgical treatment of locally advanced cancer of the tongue base.
