FGBUN - Federal Publicly Funded Institution of Science Institute of Ecology and Evolution named after A.N. Severtsov, Russian Academy of Sciences
The Institute was founded in 1934 by Academician Alexei Nikolayevich Severtsov, who was its first director. In 1936, the Institute was divided into two institutes: The Paleontological Institute and A.N. Severtsov’s Institute of Evolutionary Morphology (IEM). Now the Institute is headed by Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vyacheslav Rozhnov. The Institute studies the problems of the general and special ecology of animals, biodiversity, behavior and evolutionary morphology of animals, and develop recommendations for nature conservation.
In 1999, the Institute of Ecology and Evolution Problems of the Academy of Sciences (IPEE RAS), in collaboration with the Central Clinical Hospital of the Academy of Sciences (CCH RAS) and the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), developed a methodology for conducting psychological rehabilitation sessions for residents of large cities through the use of rehabilitation sound media in order to fill the deficit of natural sounds. The sessions are held by employees of IPEE RAS, Central Design Bureau of RAS, and RUDN University, of which three are doctors of biological sciences. Practical training of RUDN Ecological Faculty students is regularly held on the base of IPEE RAS.
