A landscape architect is a specialist who is able to landscape any open green space. Landscape art is not only park construction, but also formation of open spaces in cities and other populated areas based on a thorough study of the landscape. Mastering modern methods of organizing urban space will allow graduates to design areas of a comfortable urban environment with the introduction of “green infrastructure” for favorable living conditions in cities.
Educational Process
The program consists of 120 credits and includes lectures, seminars and lab works, several types of internships. The program lasts 2 years.
Implementation of the program is in English language. During the first year, students study at Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (Moscow, Russia), the second year — in University of Tuscia (Viterbo, Italy). The disciplines of the program contribute to gaining theoretical knowledge and practical skills that meet Russian and international educational standards and modern market requirements both in the field of landscape design and urban architecture, and in the field of environmental monitoring, assessment, regulation and modeling of urban ecosystems and their components. Leading specialists of Agrarian and Technological Institute, RUDN University, and the Department of DIBAF, University of Tuscia, are involved in teaching.
Practice
The main principle of the educational program is practice orientation.
In the process of learning, students receive not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills in landscape design, gardening art, monitoring the state and accounting of plantings, managing systems of green areas in natural and urban landscapes.
Educational and industrial practices are carried out on the basis of partner organizations:
— Laboratory of agroecological monitoring, forecasting and modeling of ecosystems, Russian State Agrarian University — Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy;
— Institute of Physical, Chemical and Biological Problems of Soil Science of RAS;
— Workshop of landscape architecture and design, RUDN University;
— Ecostroy company;
— Sokolniki Culture and Leisure Park
— Department of nature management and environmental protection, Moscow.
Second-year students run the program on the basis of DIBAF department, University of Tuscia. Students can do internships under international programs (in particular, Erasmus and COST) at partner universities in Spain, Portugal, Turkey and Greece.
Career
Master graduates can build their future career in the following areas:
— continuation of education and scientific work in postgraduate programs of Russian, European and American universities to get a PhD degree;
— work in international organizations and institutions (FAO UNESCO, IASA, WIMEK, ISRIC and others);
— work in Russian-Italian companies and corporations focused on the international market (Barilla, EuroChem, etc.).
