Profession
The educational program in the direction of “Applied Mathematics and computer Science” (“Modeling and forecasting of processes in ecology and economics”) is aimed at training specialists in the field of mathematical and computer modeling of economic processes, ecosystem modeling (modeling of various ecological, biological, chemical and other processes in ecosystems), as well as the development of appropriate software and mathematical support.
A high level of mathematical training and computer modeling will allow graduates to successfully work in organizations of various sectors of the economy.
Educational Process
Thanks to new educational technologies, the program allows Russian-speaking students around the world to get a high-quality education. The Master’s program includes not only fundamental training in mathematics, computer science, economics and ecology, but also the study of modern mathematical methods and their application for modeling processes and conducting computational experiments, as well as the development of analytical and research skills.
The educational program consists of e-courses, webinars, seminars in the format of “inverted learning”, personal consultations. Exams (including the state exam and the defense of scientific work) are conducted using remote identity verification technologies (with a remote proctor).
The training program consists of a set of disciplines of the basic part, which are mandatory for mastering, and a set of disciplines of students ' choice, which determine their possible learning trajectory and a narrower professional specialization.
During the training program, students study the following disciplines:
— Calculus of variations and optimal control;
— Continuous mathematical models;
— Discrete mathematical models;
— Programming languages and methods;
— Technologies of computational experiment;
— Machine learning;
— Methodology for constructing and verifying models of various processes;
— Forecasting in ecology;
— Modeling in the problems of Technosphere security;
— Natural resource management;
— Module “Modeling in economics”;
— Mathematical models of economic processes;
— Forecasting in economy;
Practice
The program provides two types of practice:
1) research work, which includes conducting scientific research, preparing scientific publications, participating in scientific seminars, conferences, writing a master’s thesis;
2) pre-graduate practice, which is an internship in large industrial and financial companies, in companies engaged in environmental audit, in state authorities, in scientific organizations.
Career
Graduates of the program are able to solve actual problems of applied mathematics, improve and implement new mathematical methods for solving applied problems, develop mathematical models and analyze them when solving problems in the field of professional activity, combine and adapt existing technologies to solve problems in the field of professional activity.
Examples of professions:
— researcher at a research institute;
— financial analyst;
— ecoanalytics;
— economist-analyst;
— mathematical engineer;
— developer of mathematical and computer models;
— big data analysis specialist;
— software developer;
— developer of intelligent systems;
— a teacher at a higher educational institution.
