Profession

Allergology and immunology is a field of medicine that studies the structure and functions of the immune system, its disease, as well as methods of diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The profession of an allergist-immunologist requires the doctor’s responsibility, clear analytical thinking, good memory, the desire to help people, the ability to constantly learn, learn new knowledge and technologies. In addition to the knowledge necessary for all doctors (anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, microbiology, etc.), an allergist-immunologist should have a good understanding of the immune system, the mechanisms of the appearance of immunopathological reactions, know the symptoms and course of these reactions, be proficient in modern examination methods and treatment, emergency methods (for example, with anaphylaxis — a rapidly developing allergic reaction that can lead to death).


Educational Process

Training of allergist immunologists in clinical residency provides for compulsory listening to lectures, participation in practical classes, scientific, practical, clinical conferences/congresses; independent study of literature under the program of postgraduate professional education of allergologist-immunologist doctors, preparation of abstracts, work with special medical literature and archival materials, writing scientific articles. During the training, residents have mastered the analysis of various clinical cases, including medical history, differential diagnosis, treatment, etc. Clinical practice in the meaning of the main educational program of postgraduate professional education (residency) is 73.8%. The main goal of the practice is to consolidate theoretical knowledge, develop practical skills acquired during the training of a clinical intern, and develop professional competencies of an allergist-immunologist, gaining experience in solving real professional problems.

Practice takes place in the following institutions: Institute of Immunophysiology, Euroclinic — the clinical and laboratory base of the Institute of Immunophysiology.


Career

A graduate of residency can be employed in state medical institutions, the private medical sector. Since the fields of immunology and allergology are constantly being studied in order to search for new methods of treatment and prevention, the path of a scientific worker is considered promising. Therefore, it is worth enrolling in graduate school, if there is a tendency to research. Subsequently, it will be possible to work in a research laboratory or institute.
