Profession

Biologists are people who dedicate themselves to studying living systems at different levels of organization. In science and advanced areas of the real economy, we are witnessing a shift in focus from macroscale objects to microlevel – to the cellular and molecular levels. As studies of recent decades have shown, every cell of our body is an amazing world full of mysteries. Only a deep study of nature will allow humanity to achieve such global goals as prevention of infectious and parasitic disease outbreaks, development of effective approaches to treatment and prevention of cancer and cardiovascular diseases ensuring healthy longevity. Modern technologies and equipment, coupled with the accumulated knowledge, have opened a new era in Biology and new opportunities for biologists.

Educational Process

The programme duration is 4 years. In the first two years, students study basic biological disciplines, as well as Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, which are necessary for training modern specialists. The curriculum also includes disciplines of the humanitarian, social and economic cycle aimed at developing universal competencies. After the second year students choose one of the four learning paths: Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology.

Practice

Students annually do internships to develop general professional and professional competencies. The curriculum of the first year provides for practical training in Botany and Zoology, the second year curriculum includes an internship aimed at obtaining basic laboratory skills essential for Biomedical Sciences. During the third and fourth years pre-degree internship and externship corresponding to the chosen training path take place in university laboratories and partner organizations of RUDN University.

Career

Having successfully mastered the educational programme, you will be able to become employees of biomedical research laboratories and companies involved in the drug development and biosafety control. You will be able to continue your studies and enrol in the master’s programme in Biology or Biotechnology for further career development.
