Profession

Clinical pharmacology today is an established discipline that can significantly improve not only high-quality, but also economic indicators of medical care. The program is implemented using various forms of training, including advanced electronic educational technologies, the possibility of mastering practical skills in a multidisciplinary hospital under the guidance of experienced doctors. The development of modern practical skills is complemented by a course of simulation education. The main educational goal of clinical pharmacology is to prepare a highly qualified specialist with the knowledge and skills to develop and monitor effective and safe pharmacotherapy based on data from preclinical, clinical, epidemiological and pharmacoeconomic studies, which is achieved in the training process.

Educational Process

The objectives of clinical pharmacology were identified more than 30 years ago by the World Health Organization (WHO): “Improving the health of patients by improving the safety and efficiency of the use of drugs.” Clinical pharmacology bridges the gap between drug manufacturers and clinicians, as it encompasses pharmacological and clinical aspects of treatment. Since the activities of the pharmacological service are aimed at resolving the problems of drug therapy, the program trains a highly qualified specialist, the most important aspect of which is the conduct of a competent clinical and pharmacological audit of drug treatment carried out by practicing doctors.

Practice

Residents are distributed in the department of clinical bases of the department, where they have got the opportunity not only to expand their knowledge, but also to see their application in practice under the guidance of professors of the department. During the residency course, students go through clinical case studies, which provides the opportunity to gain rich clinical experience and develop skills in assessing the rationality of pharmacotherapy in accordance with the recommendations and treatment standards based on reliable evidence-based medicine.

Career

Looking into the future of clinical pharmacology, it is necessary to emphasize the importance of training young professionals. The lack of clinical pharmacologists, especially in the practical health care system, is currently felt and will remain for a long time to come. Clinical pharmacologists are in demand in many areas of medicine: the pharmaceutical industry, private medicine, insurance companies, government clinics, health committees, and drug control authorities.
