Profession

The training is carried out on the bases of Department of hospital therapy, in clinical units and laboratories of the city clinical hospitals, and also in the laboratory of molecular diagnostics (PCR) of the medical and agricultural institutions of PFUR. A special feature of residency in laboratory genetics at the Department of hospital therapy is clinical training during the entire period of education. The first year of residency training is carried out in clinical units. The main features of the training program during this period is the development of knowledges, skills and abilities in the field of preanalytics at the pre-laboratory stage. Furthermore, the aim of the first year of residency is advanced study of the pathogenesis of diseases and the principles of their treatment. After completing the main course, an individual plan is developed for each resident (based on the General training program). The implementation of the individual plan is carried out at various clinical and laboratory units of the Department of hospital therapy, taking into account the abilities and interests of the resident. The second year of training is held on the basis of clinical diagnostic and genetic laboratories. The resident masters laboratory genetic methods and principles of interpretation of results with the formation of a laboratory conclusion, as well as consults clinical specialists on laboratory genetics.

Educational Process

The main focus of the training, in addition to mastering various laboratory techniques, is on the consulting function of laboratory genetics specialist. Knowledge of the etiology, pathogenesis and symptoms of diseases, mechanisms of action of drugs allows the laboratory genetics specialist to correctly interpret the results of laboratory researches. The graduate of the residency will “speak the same language” with the attending doctor, and this will help to improve the quality of medical care.

Practice

Residents are assigned to the clinical units the Department of hospital therapy, where under the guidance of professors of the Department they have the opportunity not only to expand their knowledge, but also to apply it in practice. Residents participate in the analysis of clinical cases, which provides an opportunity to get a rich clinical experience during the residency.

Career

Positions that can be held by a graduate of the residency – a doctor – laboratory geneticist, head of the laboratory. In addition to working in medical organizations, you can find employment in scientific institutions that conduct preclinical and clinical studies of medicines and medical devices.
